Baarn proposal

"Over a length of two hundred meters one hundred willow branches will be planted in a curved line. The curve will be parallel to the axis of the tree-lined lane on its South end. The Northern end of the arc will turn until it is perpendicular to the axis of the three trees. The distance from the willows to the row of old trees will be decided upon in consultation with the Dutch Forestry Commission."

"The top meter of the willows will be whitewashed – above my eye level – in order to set them off against the darker background. The shapes of the trees consisting superimposed layers resemble closely the renderings in the sky on Rembrandt's etching three trees. The cadence of the lane's trees is echoed by that of the willows, but the latter rhythm changes direction in order top focus the attention on the three trees.

I propose to do the planting a month before the opening in April 2002. The work will take about three days. When the installations will remain on location for some years trajectory for Rembrandt will improve, as the foliage will accentuate the curvature and interact with that of the forest in the rear."
